difference between User Acquisition and Traffic Acquisition in Google Analytics 4 (GA4):
- User Acquisition:
- Focus: User acquisition is based on user engagement. It specifically looks at the first source that led a visitor to your website.
- Attribution Model: User acquisition uses first-click attribution to attribute conversion events. In other words, it attributes all events and conversions to that initial traffic source.
- Dimension Names: When you explore the User Acquisition report, you’ll notice that the dimensions start with “First user…”.
- Traffic Acquisition:
- Focus: Traffic acquisition, on the other hand, considers the most recent traffic source that led a visitor to your website.
- Attribution Model: Traffic acquisition uses last-click attribution for each session individually. It cares about the traffic sources of each session, regardless of whether the user is new or returning.
- Dimension Names: In the Traffic Acquisition report, dimensions start with “Session…”.
In Summary:
- User Acquisition shows marketing channels that initially acquired your visitors and attributes all events and conversions to that initial traffic source.
- Traffic Acquisition shows all the most recent traffic sources, regardless of whether the user is new or returning.
